VIAJE AL CENTRO DE LA TIERRA
El profesor llama a su sobrino Axel a su despacho, allí le enseña un manuscrito de gran valor. Dentro hallan un pergamino de origen rúnico, el profesor intenta descifrarlo y dice que nadie volverá a comer hasta descifrarlo, Axel es quien logra descubrir la clave del pergamino.
Arne Saknussemm, un alquimista, dice como llagar al centro dela tierra, entonces, el profesor eufórico decide ir al lugar indicado en el pergamino junto con su sobrino Axel. Este se niega pues piensa que es una empresa irrealizable ya que la temperatura aumenta 1º por cada 70 pies de profundidad bajo la superficie del Globo. pero el Profesor decide que deben de ir, Axel esta aturdido pensando en viajar con su tío al centro de la Tierra.
