The Calendar

ABBREVIATIONS IN DATES Many times people use abbreviations when they write common words. Abbreviations are short forms of the word. When we write dates, we often use abbreviations for the days of the week and the months of the year. There are seven days in a week. They are:
Day Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Abbreviation Sun. Mon. Tues. Wed. Thurs. Fri.Sat.

There are twelve months in a year. They are:

W e also use abbreviations for the numbers in dates. There are two kinds of numbers: cardinal numbers (one, two, three) and ordinal numbers (first,second, third). Study the numbers and abbreviations that follow. *This abbreviation is not always used because the name of the month is short.

We use cardinal numbers (two, three, four) when the word number is plural (ends with s). For example: There are seven days in a week. There are twelve months in a year. There are thirty days inJune. W e use ordinal numbers (first, second, third) after months and word the. For example: I came to the U.S. on April 1 st . I pay for the telephone on the third Saturday of every month.
