CHILDREN EDUCATION AT HOME

New Viking Ships represents the height invention now in our age. Ships had overlapping planks, and measured between 17.5m and 36m in length. (Page.6)Children learn a simple education at home, they are usually taught by a parent. When children are old enough they learn how to help their parents with daily chores. The boys help on the farm or learn a craft and the girls would learn sewing and cooking. Some children who are not needed at home were sent to work for other families. (Page.3)

Nowadays our education isconsidered to be very important and is generally taught by the family. Vikings are educated to farm, to raid, to create poetry, and any other skill considered necessary to succeed in life. Crafts such as metalwork and leather-making were highly valued skills, and the ability to create poetry was cherished by the Vikings. Other important skills are those of building, sea-faring, and the use ofweapons.
Education at home

All education is given at home, with a parent, nurse, or visitor acting as teacher. Children are often sent to the home of a rich man, sometimes a relative, to be educated. Both girls and boys learn to sing, to recite and compose poetry, and to tell sagas. Girls are also given lessons in how to spin, weave, and dye wool.

Children have to work as soon as they areold enough, our education is little more than teaching practical skills. Boys in Viking families are taught to boat building, weapon making, fine goldsmith work and the art of war. Girls learn how to manage households when the men were absent and care for livestock.

All this is believed to have taken place in a happy family environment, since Viking warriors at home areremembered as loving fathers who treated their wives as equals.

Nowadays In our Norse society it is clearly that the society is dominated by male and each gender has aset of expected Viking raid. Women do not participate in trading or raiding parties, although they clearly participated in journeys of exploration and settlement to places such as Iceland Women's responsibilities are domestic, few days ago a low prohibits women from wearing men's clothes, from cutting their hair short, or from carrying weapons.

Also women are prohibited from participating in most political or governmental activities
however women are respected in Norse society and have great freedom, especially when we compare our women to other European societies. They manage the finances of the family. They run the farm in their husband's absence. In widowhood, they could be rich and important landowners.
