What Is International Management

“WHAT IS INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT?"

As students and future professionals in international business, it is important to clarify some concepts for know how to apply in our daily lives. The conceptof international management is central to our lives because we are in daily contact with the environment and if we have this concept clear, we can contextualize and apply to different situationsthat we face.

Before defining international management, we must be clear about the meaning of two words: international and management. First the word international means “crossing borders and applies toprocesses intersected by national borders” commonly we see international like an interaction between two countries (the home country and one other) or rather the interaction between countries, but inwhich each country is treated completely separately. However, globalization has come to mean transforming our international perspective to a global perspective and this means that we do notsee national borders as borders for business and the world is our business.

Second we would define management as “the process aimed at accomplishing organizational objectives by effectively coordinating theprocurement, allocation and utilization of the human, financial, intellectual and physical resources of the organization”, this means that management is needed to coordinate the human, financial,intellectual and physical resources to integrate them into a unified whole, in order to avoid that these resources are unrelated, disorganized and inefficiently used.

Now after having clear the conceptsof international and management, we can define International Management as a process of accomplishing the global objective of a firm by effectively coordinating across national boundaries theprocurement, allocation and utilization of the human, financial, intellectual and physical resources of the firm and effectively charting the path toward the desired organizational goals by navigating...
