1. Describe Zakynthos in a few lines.

Zakynthos is a beautiful little island situated in theIonian Sea. It is a magnificent little island surrounded by the clear warm water where you will find loggerhead turtles. Its situation makes of the island a little Mediterranean Paradise for tourists.On one side, the traditional little fishing villages, on the other, all the touristic cities fully equipped for the tourists to have a nice journey on the island: hotels, restaurants, nightclubs…everything here is made for the tourist to feel like at home.

2. What happened in Athens and how could this affect tourism in Greece?

Since 2009, Greece plunged into a terrible economic crisiswhich has devastated the entire political horizon. Nowadays Greece goes between high austerity measures and euro rescues. Athens lives at the rhythm of general strikes and protests while there still isno strong government at the head of the country.
In this case it could affect tourism industry in the way that as Greece is in crisis the government probably will increase taxes, which means thattourism workers will have two choices: increase prices as well so they can cover their costs or stay at the same Price, that last option would mean that either they will not cover costs and might beendangered, or either they will have to drop their expenses.

3. Does the media have an influence on the tourism industry?

In that kind of cases media have a huge influence on tourism industry.News, only show the worst of any crisis and most of the people stick to what they can see on television and papers. This is a misrepresentation of reality as this crisis, like most of them, happens tobe concentrated on Athens, the capital. Most of the crisis always stays concentrated in the principal big cities. That’s where you will find the highest levels of danger, criminality, strikes…...
