All my sons – Essay Questions.

1) Keller was sure that “Business pressure” was the justification for his behavior, or at least he did until his lasts moments. As a matter of fact, he wasconstantly avoiding his fault on the death of his son Larry; he was sure that what he did was right and that he did what he did for his family (specially his wife). It is not until the moment that his otherson Chris gets to know the truth that he decides (or starts thinking) about committing suicide.
In the play we can appreciate several characters who believe in forces outside their control, Frank,for example, believes in astrology and yet his horoscope never made him commit any serious mistakes or crimes, he just wanted to help.
All in all, it’s for sure that a man has to be responsible forhis actions, especially if he’s a family man, what is to say that Keller killed himself out of choice since what he really wanted was to escape from his responsibility as a father and to prevent Katefrom hating him.

2) Miller makes use of several dialogs to create controversial situations between the characters allowing us to understand the whole past. He allows each character to express hisor hers feelings and to slowly share pieces of the key elements about the story of Keller and the accident.
Most of these conversations have a common trigger (Larry) who is the main topic togetherwith the accident. This is may be the most important fact about the play, since it’s entirely is based on a dead man who never appears on scene.
In the play, every single character puts pressure onKeller who will end up telling his own past himself, but the final piece of the puzzle comes when Ann reveals the letter she received from Larry before he died.

3) Larry is the key character in theplay. He’s never seen and yet he is very important. He is a victim of his own father’s negligence; unable to live knowing that his father was responsible for the accident he committed suicide....
