An inconvenient truth
ABSTRACT:
This film is about an Al Gore’s slide show, were the EE.UU’s candidate for president against George W. Bush explain how global warming has been rising during lastsyears and the consequences that it had produced and the ones that are going to happen if we don’t stop it. In this show, Al gore use experiences in his live, to give the reasons why he is so implicatedin trying to solve environmental problems.
At first, he shows the firsts pictures of the Earth taken from the space, for example the one taken in 1968 by the Apollo 8, the one taken in 1972 by theApollo 17, in which we can see the Earth totally illuminated; or the time lapse picture, the one that showed us the Earth’s rotation.
Then, Al Gore starts to explain global warming as simply aspossible: the Sun emits light waves that heat the Earth and then are reflected to the space. Due to greenhouse gases, those are accumulated in the atmosphere and prevent light waves from being reflected, sothey stay in the Earth heating the planet more than it should be.
He also explains why CO2 grows and decreases considerably during the year, that is because almost all the vegetation is in the northhemisphere, so during the summer, plants produce more O2 than when it is winter.
After explaining how global warming works, Al Gore shows the effect of this environmental problem in specific casesas Kilimanjaro, Columbia Glacier, Himalaya…
The increase of CO2 is an increase of temperatures, and also an increase of ocean temperatures, and this growth causes more hurricanes and tornados, thatare more devastating and with worse consequences (as hurricane Katrina’s case). The increase of the temperatures also implies more precipitation and a relocation of rainfall, which is causing droughtsin Africa.
