AUTONOMOUS LEARNING

Understanding the meaning of independent learning is facilitated by reviewing the concept of autonomy. Autonomy refers to the ability of a person to choose what is valuable to him, to take elections in line with its self-realization ".

In my point of view there arecertain parameters to take into account:

1.People who takes the initiative in learning is more likely to retain what they learn that the student passive.
2. The fact take the initiative in learning is more in tune with our natural processes of psychological development.
3. In practice many recent educational developments placed the responsibility for learning in students' hands.
Humans areconstantly making decisions and performing various actions autonomously. Sometimes we apply that autonomy on everyday things or aspects or elementary and other exercises to make momentous decisions on projects. Our achievements in independent exercise almost every aspect of our lives: home, work, study.

Reflect for a moment. On what occasions or issues you really independent? Would you like to havemore autonomy? In what respects? What additional achievements obtained? When we talk about independent learning we mean the degree of student involvement in setting goals, procedures, resources, assessment and learning moments. In practice, in an educational program, it is unusual that there is an absolute degree of autonomy in those areas and possibly not very desirable, but experience has shownthat when the student has a greater involvement in decisions affecting learning, provides motivation and effectiveness in the educational process.

In recent years, especially since the second half of the twentieth century there have been substantial variations in the concepts, approaches and methodologies in education and learning. Traditionally the center of the educational process has been ateacher and therefore students have been grouped around him in the so-called "classes" since that has been deciding who has been learning objectives, content, strategies, moments in time, indicators of achievement, etc. And therefore the student is highly dependent on the teacher.

Increasingly strong and radical displacement of teaching practices toward a student-centered learning and thereforethere is a change in the role of the teacher is no longer engaged to impart knowledge or teach but to guide the educational process environments in which the student is able to identify and decide what you want to learn and the conditions that will do it.

In other words, has been giving more importance to self-directed learning, in which the student must be able both to identify their learningneeds as going to the sources of information and training processes to meet those needs. Under this conception learning is not limited to the four walls of the classroom because it limits are extended to all scenarios in which the student interacts, meaning that there is worldwide for classroom. This type of learning has been widely applied in criminal inquiries related to vocational training invarious disciplines, human resource development in the company, continuing education, etc.

This change is partly in the widespread acceptance of basic principles including:

1. the recognition that each person learns concepts and develops skills in different ways and at different rates than other students.
2. Learning is most effective when it is experimental or that we learn best when we havethe opportunity to try and confront the reality of theoretical concepts.
2. In response to the incessant changes that occur in all areas, teaching must be permanent, or whether it takes place throughout life, therefore everyone must develop skills for acquiring new knowledge continuously and independently.
One option for responding to these realities is to increase learner autonomy in their own...
