Researchers at the University of Maryland in the U.S. studied the effects on blood vessels when people were shown either comedies or drama. After screening, the bloodvessels of the group who watched the comedy behaved normally-expanding and contracting easily. But the blood vessels in people who watched the drama tended to tense up, restricting blood flow.Respiratory system: Laughter helps respiratory exchanges. When laughing our pulmonary muscles relax and allow our bronchus to expand therefore an increase of pulmonary ventilation.
Respiratory exchangesare from 3 to 4 times more important when we’re laughing than when we are not. That leads to a better oxygenation of the brain.
Immune system: During laughter, there is a decrease of cortisol, ahormone that inhibits the immune system activity. Laughter also increases the level of anti-bodies (proteins charged to fight bacteria and viruses) and the level of lymphocytes T that fight against cancercells.
