We are going to talk about the relation and the influence between the book we’ve already read and some of the works of Shakespeare.
First of all we want to emphasize how Johnmention, in some occasions, works of Shakespeare such as Macbeth, Othello, Romeo and Juliet…
John is the character who see the happy world without being conditioned, and his moralityand way of life are very different, so, far from being happy in the happy world, it’s horrified what he sees, the sexual behavior, etc His education is based on the christianity andthe complete works of Shakespeare, who allows him to express across his words.
In Shakespeare woks, it shows different kind of persons, and situations that transmitted some emotionslike sadness, fury or jealousy, and that kind of feelings are seen badly in the perfect society. John wants to apply these feelings in that society, and show them how beautiful isreading and feel excited about this works. But when he tried to explain his idea, he isn’t allowed to do it. The Controllers are frightened of that, because if they show this kind ofbooks, society could stir up and have new feelings that lead them to not being happy in this perfect world.
We can see in a situation in where Watson and John are talking about Romeoand Juliet. John is explaining the story, and Watson doesn’t understand anything. He only laughs at fact of how can parents forced the daughter to have someone she doesn’t want. Sowe can see that this conditioned society can’t appreciate the art and its emotions, they only look at those material things.
Another situation is when he falls in love with Lenina,he can’t do nothing, because they’re from different social classes, and their ideas and the way of thinking isn’t compatible. So their love is impossible, like Romeo and Juliet love.
