Business Comunication
Nonverbal communication relates with the part of the message that is not expresses with words. There are three areas of types of non-verbal communication:
Thefirst area is Personal non-verbal communication this concern to one person how they behaves, and how they use their non-verbal behavior in the communication processes. “It is the use of nonverbal actions in a way that is personal or unique to that person; everyone has their own unique non-verbal signals” (Dwyer, 2002, p.71). As an example, someone, who need to give a speech and feel nervous, theywill show their nervous in different way from others, may speak quickly than usual, but other may stutter, this will be the way how they show their nervous. So In this type of nonverbal communication the meaning is unique to the person who is sending the message.
The second area is cultural non-verbal communication, we can identify this area when a common behaves are show for a group ofpeople. Those behaviors are learned unconsciously. “Cultural non-verbal communication is rule-governed behavior learnt from others in the culture” (Dwyer, 2002, p.72). For example, Saudis women when they hang out with their husband and children, the Saudis women walk behind their husband looking after their children. On the other hand, when Colombian woman hang out with their husband and children, bothlook after their children. In this type people try to imitate other behaviors in the society.
Finally, the last type of non-verbal communication is the Universal, It is a behavior that is common to human kind. “Universal non-verbal communication refers to body movements common to human kind, such as a smile or tears” (Dwyer, 2002, p.72). For example when a human had an accident and has beeninjured one part of their body the common behave is to cry does not matter from which culture or gender they are.
2. Conduct research in the context of non verbal communication and write 100 words each on any five of the following concepts. You can use real life examples to support your answer.
There are seven classification of non-verbal communication; below I will explain five of these.Kinesics refers to the body movements such as posture, gesture, eye behavior and facial expression, the way how people move their hands, head, how they stand. All these movements can affect the message. “The way we sit or stand can show attitudes such as friendliness or hostility and emotional states such as relaxation or tension” (Dwyer, 2002, p.75). As an example, a receiver has their arms crosswhen they are listen to the sender, means than they are not interest in what the sender is saying or they do not care about what had been said , the same if they are leaning backwards.
Haptics has to do with touching behavior and how these give different interpretation of the message. Some examples of touching are: hitting, holding, stroking. For example Latin culture tends to say hello huggingand kissing their friends; this is the way how they show their feelings such as affection, but this behave is not showed in Asian cultures. As we know “Touching is treated differently from one country to another. Socially acceptable levels of touching vary from one culture to another. In the Thai culture, touching someone’s head may be thought rude” (Nonverbal communication, n.d., para. 23).Paralanguage has to do with how something is said rather than what is said, this gives clues to the message. It is important to mention than “paralanguage involves the pitch range, pitch control, rhythm control, tempo, articulation control and resonance” (Dwyer, 2002, p.77). For example, someone, who rises their voice when are speaking can be angry; a tired person will speak more slowly than usual,...
