The Loch Ness monster, Nessie familiarly called, is the name of a legendary creature that is said to live in Loch Ness, a deep freshwater lake (known in Scotland as Loch Ness)near the city of Inverness. Along with Bigfoot and the Yeti, Nessie is perhaps the "mystery" most widespread of cryptozoology.
Most scientists and other experts say the evidence supporting theexistence of Nessie are unconvincing, and consider the reports of fraud or real creatures misidentifications.
Hypothesis on origin
Most modern descriptions of the appearance of the monster, indicatethat there would be a creature that would resemble the extinct plesiosaur, a prehistoric aquatic creatures. Thus, the modern description that is given normally would be similar to that presentedplesiosaurs fossils belonging to the Mesozoic era, which indicate that this prehistoric animal had to be an animal physically huge, with a long neck, small head and two pairs propulsion fin underwater. Thehypothesis discussed plesiosaur connection with the Loch Ness monster, did it became a popular topic in the beginning of the field of cryptozoology.
However, scientists, and even today the vastmajority also cryptozoologists, suggest that the hypothesis that the Loch Ness monster is a remnant of the species plesiosaur, is something that appears highly unlikely. Among the reasons given are:
•You need to have a breeding colony of such creatures so they could experience a long-term survival, and along with the fact that plesiosaurs needed to surface to breathe, this would result in morefrequent sightings that have presently disclosed.
• Many biologists also say that Loch Ness is not large or productive enough to have a biomass that can support even a small family of these creatures.• In addition, the lake was originated as a result of recent geological glaciation was solid and frozen during the ice age.
Despite all this, many cryptozoologists argue that Loch Ness is a lake...
