The “Texting While Driving” Issue
A texting driver is 23 times more likely to have a car accident than a non-texting driver. Texting while driving should be illegal. Many of today’s accidents arecaused by distracted driving, and many of these distractions are caused by the use of cellphones. Nowadays almost every teen has and uses a cellphone. However, “among those with cellphones, almost 90%are texters. Of those who text, 30% send over one hundred texts per day” (Stella). This means that each day, there would be more texts than people on the planet. Texting while driving should not belegal because it is distracting, provokes destruction, and to leads to personal injuries.
Taking the eyes off from the road is dangerous. It slows down the driver’s reaction because there is nocomplete focus on the road. Teenagers should know that when driving distracted, their reaction time slows as low as if they were 75-year-old. Texting while driving is a very delicate situation because itdoes not only concern teens, but also adults. Adults believe that they are old and experienced enough to handle the texting while driving issue, but they are wrong.
Texting while driving also cancause destruction. When an accident occurs, cars and everything in the surrounding is damaged. It may damage bridges, roads, signs or even the driver’s and passengers property, like electronicdevices or clothing. In the other hand, an accident is not only dangerous but it is also costly. Car accidents tend to cost by getting the car fixed, and paying towing fees, hospital fees, and carinsurance.
It leads to personal injuries because a car accident can vary from a scratch in the arm to instantaneous death. Life is not guaranteed, and people should be aware of what they do in order toconserve it.
