Book Review for “Keeping the Faith: A Guidebook for Spiritual Parenting” –

V. B. Gillespie & JudithGillespie, et. al. have done a remarkable job at coalescing the crucial data of the Valuegenesis I and Valuegenesis II findings and putting together a very practical and resourceful tool for parents whoare intentional about rearing up their children in the fear of the Lord. The old adage "You can't judge a book by its cover" fit this resource adeptly. When I first acquired the book, I did just that.I dismissed it as one that probably wouldn't amount to much. But as I delved into I realized I was wrong. It is something I wish I would've been made aware of long ago. And I believe it should be inthe hands of every single Adventist parent in our church!
The manner in which the authors have laid out the book is very practical. Having taken into consideration the 20+ factors that fostereffective religion in the home (based on Valuegenesis1 and Valuegenesis2) and succinctly summarizing them into fives sections makes this resource very handy for the modern "on the go" families that we'vebecome today. Including a variety of different activities to develop each of these factors, taking into consideration the specific needs of children throughout the different stages of their personaldevelopment adds that more value to the resource at hand. To top it off, the authors have also included a "mega list" of resources where parents and families can create an external support system to aidethem in their quest of making disciple for Christ of their children and aiding them in developing a healthy and mature faith to lead them to the Kingdom.
I wish to point out two things that to memake this resource stand out to me. The fact that the authors identify the importance of intentionality when it comes to developing their children's faith in a responsible manner. Too many times I...
