How many delegates do you need at a national convention to become the candidate? There will be 2,286 delegateschosen and a candidate must accumulate 1,144 delegate votes at the Republican National Convention to win the nomination.
What are National Conventions? They are at the end of the first primaries andcaucuses. Each party has a national proposal to finalize the selection of each presidential candidate. Every presidential candidate chooses a partner he is vice-presidential candidate.
What is theGeneral (popular) Election? The party has finished to choose one candidate, they go around to the country to collect voters and finally in November people vote for one candidate (not directly theyvote for a group of elector, how then vote for president).
What is the Electoral College? How many electoral votes are there? Where/when do the electors meet? The Electoral College is system ofelectors, each state gets certain amount of electors (depending on each state's total number of representation in Congress). The electors cast their votes for President and Vice President. The electoralvotes are 538. The electors meet in December, the electors meet in their respective States. Federal law does not permit the States to choose an alternate date for the meeting of electors.
