Counseling provides the opportunity to work towards living in a more resourceful and satisfying way during times of distress, confusion, choice or change, among many others, thisessay will focused in how the counseling therapeutic processed change when you treat children and adolescent versus adult. In counseling each client must be accepted as an individual with their ownneeds, but between children and adolescent Vs adults they are noteworthy differences, and needs, therefore different therapeutic approaches are required. For example, most adults seek for help because theyare aware that they have a problem, on the other hand, children and adolescent go to treatment by requirement of their parents, guardians or school authorities when they notice some signs andsymptoms such as:
* School problems * Frequent fighting * Trouble sleeping * Feeling sad * Thoughts about suicide or running away * Stealing or lying * Mood swings * Setting fires *Obsessive thoughts or compulsive behaviors | * Excessive weight loss or gain * Troubling or disturbing thoughts * Use of drugs or alcohol * Withdraw or isolation * Injuring or killing animals* Dangerous or self destructive behavior * Trouble paying attention * Anxiety or frequent worries |
Adults therapy is verbal and they usually used a chair or sofa and reflects on his/herfeelings while the therapist listens closely to each word, adult clients are able to tell the therapist their feelings, and are able to discuss their experiences. Children and adolescent do not tend to bethis reflective in their thoughts, and are not able to share with therapists the quality of their experience in words and eloquent phrases, children and adolescents experience the world through...
