Festive days

In this topic I’m going to talk about festive days such as Mother’s Day, Christmas or Valentines Day. I’d like to introduce them and then to explain my thesis.
I think we all likefestive days, me personally I adore them, we don’t have classes. But my question is: Have all those festive days become an excuse to have presents? Aren’t they commercial?
During a year we have a lotof remarkable dates. All our relatives, friends and colleagues have an anniversary, a birthday. There are lots of things to celebrate.
It’s becoming more and more common to receive a present in yourbirthday, in your anniversary, a lot of presents in Christmas and in Valentines Day if you are not single and it seems to be rude when someone doesn’t give you one.

There are some advantages.
Youhave the illusion of what would your present be and you are happier and hopeful because you have something to wait for
Furthermore, we have an free market system, which needs us to consume and buygoods and services. It’s the start of a cycle. If we don’t consume, we have an economic crisis because companies don’t produce so they don’t need employers, they don’t get a salary so they can’tconsume. Then the wheel doesn’t stop rolling.

On the other hand, if we always give presents, they will be underestimated.
Festive days are an opportunity to spend time with the people you love and thereare better ways to show your feelings than a present. You can write a letter or have a dinner when you can talk.
Moreover, people spend a lot of time choosing the perfect present and wondering if itwould be appropiate for the occasion. It’s said that time is gold, and we could have spend it in something more interesting to show our real feelings, because everybody can go to a shop.
It’s a shamebecause we are losing the hability to communicate what we think and we tend to cover it with gifts, more expensive when our feeling are stronger.
