Always compare the translation against the source file and check for the following:
1. Language specifics
• Spelling
• Flow
• Grammar
• Terminologyconsistency
• Abbreviations
• Font corruption
• That the text has not been cropped (letter missing, parts of sentences and/or paragraphs)
• Correct hyphenation (when youhave to put hyphens in order to cut words so they can fit in a line). Please check with the PM since some clients don’t want hyphenation at all, while other are ok with it. Also, some languages do nottake hyphens so you need to ensure that he cut in the line is correct.
2. Completion
▪ The number of sentences, sections, paragraphs, bullet points, etc. should match the source.
3.Non-translatable material
• When items are left in the source language (proper nouns, addresses, figures, Websites links, etc.), make sure they are spelled correctly and are complete.
4. Numbers andfigures
• Are correct for the specific target audience.
• If conventions are different make sure they are followed correctly and consistently.
5. Punctuation
▪ Is consistent and notmissing anywhere
6. Format
▪ Font
▪ Font size
▪ Serif vs San Serif font
▪ Bolding
▪ Iitalics
▪ Underlining
▪ Images (positioning in relation to the text, sectionand page)
▪ Colors in general (please note that since you will be working with a low res PDF the colors and images might be a little blurry)
▪ Double spaces (use the find and replacefunction in Adobe Acrobat/PDF)
▪ Pagination matches the source where applicable
▪ Footers and headers are translated as well as footnotes, if applicable
▪ Capitalization is correct.
▪Superscript and subscript is correct.
