Emotional consequences of miscarriage
According to Dr. John Petrozza in his article Early Pregnancy Loss, miscarriage could be defined as “the spontaneous end of a pregnancy at a stage where the embryo or fetus isincapable of surviving, generally defined in humans at prior to 24 weeks of gestation” .
Miscarriage has a lot of causes like genetic facts, immunology aspects, anatomic problems and infections. However,one of the most important reasons is the emotional condition of the women during the pregnancy. Sometimes they are too stressed and worried for other aspects of their personal life, like their job.Moreover, there are a lot of pregnant teenagers whose parents don´t give enough support to their daughters and in some cases, they don´t want her to have the baby. Consequently, these girls are intoa terrible situation, full of discussions with their parents and boyfriend. This condition could provoke miscarriage too.
Most of the times miscarriage takes place in the earlier stages ofpregnancy and the most common symptoms are bleeding, physical discomfort and puking. In addition to all this problems, women experiment a lot of hormonal and emotional disorders, which can lead into aterrible psychological condition.
Thus, Lee C., in his book The influence of psychological debriefing on emotional adaptation in women following early miscarriage: a preliminary study. assures that “Abouta fifth of pregnancies end in miscarriage, leading to emotional consequences, such as anxiety and depression, which may last for a number of months.”
