Consequences of global warming
Until recently, the various estimates that have been carried out regarding the consequences of global warming, we find thatuntil recently spoken of between 1.5 and 4.5 º C.
But today, it is known that warming will lag behind with respect to increased concentration of greenhouse gases,because the oceans absorb much of the increase in temperature.
Thus, the IPCC predicts by 2100 warming of between 1.0 and 3.5 º C, and if it is true that thesevariations in temperature may seem insignificant, will involve major changes. Among these are:
Precipitation will increase from about 3 to 15%.
The desertareas are much warmer, less humid but causing serious consequences.
Half of the glaciers will melt, so it is possible that the sea level rise between 0.4 and0.65 m. Thus, many coastal areas will disappear.
By becoming deserts, many farmland could be lost.
