The Negative Affect of Stereotyping
How does stereotyping affect the society in anegative way? While the homeless people hustle their day by day living, we see them asking for money in the streets and so many thoughts cross our mind. But, are there thoughts positive or do theycontribute in some way to help them? Not in most cases, so in this essay we will see how we can change that and how a positive act towards them may help better their day or even change their life. Look atthe next homeless person you see and ask yourself, do you really think that’s the life he chose?
Perhaps it looks like they do because they are drug addicts or drop outs, but who are we to judge anyof these people? We don’t know who they are or what they have been thought so rather than ignoring them or judging with a false testimony, why don’t we try to help them with some food or sparechange. Some of those people haven’t eaten a decent meal in days and most depend on others’ leftovers. In “Our Tired, Our Poor, Our Kids” we see how mothers live in a shelter with their kids, not evenknowing if the next day they’ll be allowed to sleep there. It’s very sad how they need to wake up every morning trying to get out with not such a thing as hope in their hearts or positive effort in theirmind. There’s where we can come in and try to boost their confidence with whatever we can give them, if any maybe a smile or a “good afternoon”. That’s why we should not judge this people, nor asthieves or murderers or anything, cause we really do not know them.
Over the years, I learned to treat them differently from most people; however I have not always got the feedback I was hoping for. Ihave even gotten spoken to in a negative way, but this doesn’t affect who I am or my commitment to being nice to anyone I see.
