Single/Dual Head Injector Preparation Instructions for Cardiac CTA 1. Draw 100 ml of contrast into the power injector. 2. Draw back another 50 ml of air in the power injector to provide space for thesaline. If using Test Bolus before CTA, the first 20 ml of contrast will be used for the Test Bolus and the last 80 ml with the saline flush for the CTA. 3. Draw 50 ml of saline into a 50 cc syringe.4. Use a 16 or 18 gauge needle to inject the saline slowly into the space you’ve provided on top of the contrast. This should be done carefully and not too fast so the saline will not mix with thecontrast. You will see the layering effect as the saline settles on top of the contrast, similar to oil and water. 5. Once the contrast and saline are in the injector, flush out the remainder of airthrough the tubing while keeping the injector facing up and the saline on top. Be sure to see that all air is removed. 6. Slowly tilt the injector down and watch, as the saline stays on top while tilting.Some saline may settle to the top from the tubing also. You should still see the layer between the contrast and saline. Saline Administration: Other techniques of loading saline into an injector arepossible. Some have used the tubing to draw the saline directly into the injector and use the manual control on the injector to control it slowly. Contrast Media: If the customer has a concentration of300 to 350, then the higher concentration of 350 is recommended.
