1. What accounts for the differences between men and women?
How would the essentialist and constructionist approaches answer this question?
Ans: essentialist approach: men and women are differentfrom birth due to their chromosomes, hormones and genitalia and culture plays no role in this differences.

Constructionists approach: gender differences are not only learnt from our culture, butchanges over time.

2. How do the functionalist, conflict and interactionist perspective explain the reason for gender difference and inequality between men and women?

Functionalist: certainroles are better suited for a particular gender. Men are better suited for instrumental roles such, they are the breadwinners and and authority figure.
Women are suited for expressive role, the one whoprovides the family's emotional support.
The division is beneficial to society.

Conflict: the relationship between men and women is one of unequal power. Mens's roles and activities are morevalued and accepted than women. Gender inequality is the domination of men over women.

Interactionist: gender inequality is learned from everyday interactions from different agents of oursocialization.

3. How is gender role socialization manifested in the family, school and media?

Families: are usually the primary source of socialization and greatly impCt gender role socialization. Baby boystent to be treated more roughly by their parents, girls are thought to be cute, sweet and cuddly and received more gentle treatment.
When girl babies cry, parents respond to them more quickly andparents are more prone to talk and sing to girls babies.

Schools: research hows that teachers tend to favor boys more than girls. Boys receive more attention and instructional time, boys are morelikely to be called on in class and given more challenging questions and praise.

Media: is the major contributor of gender inequality in our society. The media objectifies women much more so than...
