o John Jay: sent by Washington to sign a treaty with Britain/he was a Federalists
▪ First chief justice
▪Jay’s Treaty: in the treaty he was forced to agree that Britain had the right to seize ships in French ports/ British gave up forts in America and now American merchants would be able to trade with Britainand in the Caribbean (shocked and angered people/tried to keep secret/this treaty help protect economy and risk of war)
o Thomas Jefferson:
▪ When the constitution wasestablished, he was chosen as secretary of state.
▪ He convinced southerners to vote for Hamilton Plan.
▪ He was the leader of the Democratic Republicans.
▪ Supportedagriculture and trade/believe rich people were corrupt
▪ Jefferson became 3rd American President(beat Aaron Burr)/ referred to as The Election of 1800
▪ the nation doubled in sizeduring his presidency/he limited federal power
o Alexander Hamilton:
▪ Federalist
▪ When constitution was established, he was chosen as secretary of treasury.▪
o General Henry Knox:
▪ Chosen as secretary of war
o Edmund Randolph:
▪ Chosen as attorney general
▪ Governor of Virginia

o Federalists

▪ Favoredstrong national government
▪ Believed democracy was dangerous to liberty
▪ Put government in hands of wealthy people
▪ Believed manufacturing and trade were thebasis of wealth and power
▪ Favored policies that supported areas of economy
