1. February
Today is February the fourteen. This is the happiest day for those who has someone to love and someone who loves them.
In El Salvador and in the United States, friends and lovers exchange cards and presents showing love or appreciations for their friendship. It is Valentine´s Day.
In the Unites States they have another celebration during this month: ThePresident´s Day. It is celebrated on the third Monday of February. It is celebrated on the third Monday of February. It is George Washington and Abraham Lincoln´s birthday.
People don´t go to work, it means that they have the day off or free.
2. March – April
We are very happy. The Holy Week (or Eastern) is coming. We have (almost) the whole week whole. My parents and I are going to the beachfor one or two days. It is great. It is a religious celebration, but just few people go to churches. Most of them go the beaches.
In the United States they also celebrate Eastern in March or April. It is a big celebration over there, but they don´t go to the beaches on that holiday. They stay at home and relax or go to the church.
3. May
There are several celebrations during this month’s inour country and in the United States. We have the Holy Cross Day on the Third of May.
We have the Labor´s Day on the first of May. It is a day off. In the United States they have the Memorial Day on the fourth of May.
People put flowers on the soldier´s graves, but the greatest holiday in both countries is the Mother´s Day. We celebrate it on the tenth of May and in the United States on the secondSunday of May.
4. June
June is the sixth month of the year. It is the month to show love and appreciation to our fathers and our teachers. In our country we celebrate the Father´s Day on June the seventeenth, in the United States it is celebrated the third Sunday in June.
We also celebrate the Teacher´s Day on June the twenty-second.
5. July – September
In the United States iscelebrated the Independence Day on July the fourth. We celebrate our Independence Day on September the fifteenth. In both countries workers don’t go to work, students don´t go to school. There are parades on the streets and avenues. There are colorful flags waving on houses and buildings. There are bans playing music. It is a noisy time. It is the day to honor the great men who fought for ourIndependence.
6. October
On the second Monday of October. In the United States and on the twelfth day of October in El Salvador. People remember Christopher Columbus, because he discovered the great land of America.
October the thirty-first is Halloween in the United States. Children dress in costumes and go from house to house asking for candies. Adult’s sometime dress is costumes and goes to parties.The symbols for this day are witches, ghost and pumpkins.
7. November
It is November the second. It is all Soul´s Day in our country. It is a day off. Most people go to cemeteries and put flowers on the graves of relatives.
The fourth Thursday in November is Thanksgiving Day in the United States. North American people have a food dinner at home and thank God for all the food things theyhave received during the rear.
