Located five hours south of Lima, the desert oasis Huacachina is home to an extraordinary adventure tour called the dune buggy and sandboarding tour. This tour is both thrilling and jaw-dropping, transporting you deep into the desert to see the huge sand dunes on the coast. These ancient mountains of sand are beautiful and surreal. And adventurous travelers are welcome to trysandboarding down the dunes!
There is much more to do here, including winery tours, flights over the world-famous Nazca Lines, and boat tours to see Humboldt penguins and sea lions.
For the past 12 years, the desert oasis of Huacachina has served as the site of one of the most popular adventure tours in South America: the dune buggy and sandboarding tour. People of all ages - including kids, teenagers,and adults - all visit Huacachina and climb into a 4-wheel-drive dune buggy driven by a professional driver. We can offer this tour as a group tour with other travelers, or privately.
Half the tour is riding in the dune buggy, up and down the dunes at fast speeds. And the other half of the tour is a chance to try the adventure sport of “sandboarding”. This is just like snowboarding, but instead ofsnow you will be boarding on the fine-grained sand of the desert. If you aren’t athletically talented, no problem! Just lay on your stomach on the board, and go “sand sledding”. This is faster, lots of fun, and doesn’t require any patience or ability.
The dune buggy and sandboarding tour is an amazing thrill ride. But this is more than just a thrill ride: the gigantic sand dunes are beautiful,surreal and mesmerizing. A tour into the desert feels like an “out of this world” experience, almost like visiting the surface of another planet.
We often have visitors who want to experience the beauty of the dunes but are not looking for excitement or adrenalin. We created the SLOW AND RELAXING DUNE BUGGY TOUR. Instead of racing up and down the dunes, on this private tour we will take you on arelaxing exploration of the desert at a moderate pace. You will have multiple opportunities to take photographs. And you will be able to watch the amazing sunset over the dunes. This tour is romantic and relaxing, and you are welcome to bring your own bottle of champagne or wine and some glasses with you!

Es un oasis ubicado a cinco kilómetros al oeste de la ciudad peruana de Ica, enmedio del desierto costero del Pacifico. De aguas color verde esmeralda, surgió debido al afloramiento de corrientes subterráneas y alrededor de ella hay una abundante vegetación compuesta de palmeras, eucaliptos (especies introducidas) y la especie de algarrobo conocida como huarango, la que sirve para el descanso de las aves migratorias que pasan por esta región. Todo ello contribuye a hacer deHuacachina uno de los lugares más vistosos y bellos de la costa peruana. Conocido también como el oasis de América.
Un oasis es un paraje de un desierto en el cual se pueden encontrar agua y vegetación. Suelen constituir porciones más o menos extensas de terrenos fertilizados por una fuente de agua en medio de los arenales.
Su gran atractivo como paraíso natural, el cálido clima imperante todo elaño y el poder curativo atribuido a sus aguas (antaño, ricas en sustancias sulfurosas y salinas) hicieron que Huacachina se convirtiera, alrededor de 1940, en uno de los más importantes y exclusivos balnearios peruanos de entonces. Se construyeron casas y hoteles, se levantó un hermoso malecón alrededor de la laguna, con barandas, alamedas y vestidores para bañistas. Incluso se asfaltó el camino queune a la laguna con la ciudad de Ica, al que se sembró de ficus, acacias y huarangos. Aunque el paso del tiempo se hace notar, el balneario todavía mantiene bastante de la prestancia de sus mejores épocas.
