Huck Essay
Mark Twain shows a lot of themes in his novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, but one of the most significant is dishonesty. This theme is present in the story, all along from thebeginning to the end, lies keep coming up. Huck uses lies as an excuse for everything and he doesn’t even feel bad about doing it. Huck is dishonest when she dresses like a girl, when he meets theGrangerfords and also when he meets Duke and dauphin.
After Huck escapes from his father, people begin to think he is dead. Huck hears about these rumors and decides to go to his town to figure outthe stories about him. For this Huck decides to dress like a girl so nobody recognize him. When he arrives he talks to a lady. The lady asks him what is her name and he says he is Sara Williams andthat he is visiting his uncle who is sick. This may not sound like a harmful lie but it is still a lie. There might be valid reasons for him to lie but still it is not justified. Just because thiswoman was nice but somebody else might have reacted different after finding out Huck was lying.
Huck also lies to the Grangerfords. They let him enter their house, provide him food and shelter and hepays back with dishonesty. “I weren’t prowling around, sir; I fell overboard off of the steamboat. –Oh, you did, did you? What did you say your name was? –George Jackson, sir. “ This is a terriblebehavior, Huck should know better and at least be sincere with the family. Definitely some of Hucks´ lies have to do with his lack of education and values. If Huck had more values he would know that isnot right to fool good people this way and he wouldn’t be this abusive and egocentric.
