The Yellow sweater is a contemporaneous Novel written by Hugh Garner as part of his novels and magazines released in 1952. Itdevelops the story of a successful businessman named Tom who, in the road, while driving to the city feeling joy of his excellent development, reaches to see a lovely but shy and quiet young girl called Marie Edwards. The story develops inside Tom’s car because He approaches to the side of the road and stops to offer her to take her to the city. During the short trip, he started to remember Marie lookedexactly as his eldest daughter. Marie remained shy and always in defense mode against Tom. After a couple kilometres, the trustiness began to gain space between them and Tom asked a couple questions about why she was travelling to the city. She just answered saying she had not had good relationships with the husband of her Aunt in the farm she ran away. Also she told she had problems with herboyfriend. The story gets the climax once the foolish desire of get close to Marie, with intentions. However, Marie refuses completely and she began to cry, turning up her voice, and shouting Tom had the same behaviour that her boyfriend had with her. Finally she went off the car laughing hysterically and Tom requested her to come back to the car. She ran and remained laughing so He decided to goaway and leave her.

On the other side it is the short story written by Ernest Hemingway, name “Hills Like white Elephants”. In this story, we find the same composition of characters, nameless. They just can be recognized as The American, referring to the man, and the girl. Everything takes place in the scenario of a Train station, near the Ebro River. It is such a lovely atmosphere, well knownfrom the mountains of the Iberic Peninsula. To be specific, they were located in a Spanish train station, in a “Bistrot”, where they sat down and took a couple beers to low a little the heat of the weather while they waited for the train that will take them from Barcelona to Madrid. The story shows us a very mature conversation between the characters, with a huge blossomed trustiness. During theconversation the girl focused his view in the hills fully covered by the clouds and she mentioned they looked just as white elephants. Although in real life, either she or he has not seen such an animal with that colour. Then, the conversation changed to a almost love declaration from the American to the girl, who seemed to be more interested in the country view rather than continue the talking thatnow it included the love affairs issue. She claimed in fancy way to him for stopping mention the feeling and just remains in a uncomfortable silence, companied by the waiting for the arrival of the next train and the nature of the Spanish valley she enjoyed during the time in the “Bistrot”. Finally they come back to the place they were sitting down and the story returns to the first scenes. Anelder man and a young girl sit in the bar near the train stations, with just a simple final question that locks the story to a nature end-beginning.
It can be seen in the short stories a remarkable situation, that I will aboard as the main aspect. This is the awakening trustiness relationship between an old man and a young girl that, for the readers might be her daughter. The feelings of love thatare able to be found are quite predictable, but also misunderstood since is sort of taboo for people to see an old man “taking chances” by falling in love with a girl that is doubled in age for him. Finally the contrast between the two short stories that make them be in extreme opposites.

In “The Yellow Sweater”, the trustiness is hard to be reached due to the appearance and behaviour of the...
