Human Trafficking is modern day slavery. Human Trafficking is “The recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of persons, by means of the threat or useof force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve theconsent of a person having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation". (The United Nations 2011) There are 27 million people enslaved worldwide. Six hundred thousand to eighthundred thousand human are trafficked internationally 70% female and 50% are children; 1.2 million of children are trafficked for sex, making it the world’s largest illegal market today. Because of thisillegal market in my opinion being traffic, prohibits you from three basic human rights; it deprives you from choosing where to live, where you want to work and who your friends are or who to love.Most of us take these freedoms for granted but millions of people around the world have this freedom taken away.
The first reason is that you do not select where to live and with whom. Most ofthe victims who are traffic don’t know where they are when they are kidnapped, they lose track from where they were living to where they are standing now. In addition to that you do not choose eitherwith whom to live with, since you are a traffic person you might be living with a bunch of people who you do not know and they barely speak to you. Not only you will be living with other people, butyou may be living in a foreign country that speaks another language from yours, and it will be more difficult to at least find a way out. Nobody will understand you, so you will be trapped and whoknows for how long.
