Four years ago a girl commited suicide when she heard her favorite band split up. Sometimes we don’t realize how damaging the media is for our children and for the artists as well. Themedia surround us, in one way or another it will have an effect on us. Even though television can entertain us, it also has negative effects on everyone: the audience and the performers.First, the actors can not have a completely normal life due to the lack of privacy. It’s hard for them to have successful marriages, a functional family, with people knowing everysingle move they make. This can stress them, leading them to take excessive amounts of drugs. The next thing we know, an actress dies of overdose and our children are imitating their behaviorlike if it’s something normal.

Second, the women on television could become obsessed with their body image, feeling pressure and thinking that they have to look a certain way to beattractive. They start doing everything they can to be skinny, even if it takes throwing up on purpose after every time they eat. Some of them just stop eating, becoming anorexic, affectingtheir health and their self-esteem.

Finally, all this can affect in major ways our family and our children. Most teenagers spend their free time watching television, believing most ofwhat they see. The adolescents even follow the famous people steps; they get so obsessed with the actors that they want to be just like them, thinking that their behavior is right. Manyteens even become anorexic or alcoholic, affecting their health and their relationship with their parents and friends.

These are some of the ways that the media, specially television,can damage our society and the performers. I hope that everyone uses the media only for good and that in the future someone can implement limits to it to protect the people we care about.
