Use functional locations to map more complex technical systems, equipment to map individual objects, and maintenance bills of materials to map spare parts.
FUNCTIONAL LOCATIONS
Definition
Functional locations are hierarchically ordered structures that represent a technical system, building or part thereof. They are multi-level and canbe structured according to spatial, technical or functional criteria (process oriented).
The aim of creating a functional location is to structure a technical system or building into units that are relevant for Plaint Maintenance. It is a possible place to install equipment.

Use
Functional locations are used to:
• Represent operational structures or technical systems according to functional criteria
• Execution of maintenance tasks for certain parts of the technical system and record it• Collect, store and evaluate technical data for certain parts of the technical system over a long period of time
• Monitor the costs of maintenance for certain parts
• Analyze the effects of usage conditions on the damage susceptibility for the pieces of the equipment installed
Identification
The identification of functional locations is created using the structure indicator; itconsists of two input fields.
• Coding template (Edit screen): control which characters may be used for identification when a label is assigned (letters, numbers or both) and how they are grouped together. The maximum length of this code is 40 characters
• Hierarchy levels: define which level ends at which character and how many levels the structure may contain
It also has acategory and a class, for every functional location category you can define various masks.
Master record
The master record for the functional locations uses the following views:
• General: class, object type, reference data, manufacturer data and so on
• Location: location data, address
• Organization: account assignment (company code, cost center), responsibilities(maintenance planning plant)
• Structure: structure indicator, higher-level functional location, equipment
• You can include additional data or links activating them as tab pages or pushbuttons
If you create a new functional location, the system checks whether a hierarchy with this structure indicator already exists and whether the new identification is suitable for the existing hierarchy. Then, the new functional location is created and included in the existing structure.
Example of structure indicator:
