A: Hey, I finished my homework early. You wanna do something tonight? B: Sure. I don't have any plans. A: What do you wanna do? B: I feel like seeing a movie, but I don't feel like going to the theater. A: Well, we can just rent a movie. Besides, it's cheaper that way. B: Sounds good. We can get some snacks too. |
A: Alright, let's go pick upa movie and go to the store afterwards.
B: Just let me grab my purse and we can leave.
Dialogue 2°: “I got in a wreck”
Two friends talk in the parking lot.
A: Is that a new car?
B: No, it's just a rental.
A: That makes sense. I didn't think you could afford a car that nice. Wow, it's a convertible too.
B: Yeah, it's really nice. I got in a wreck. So I'm just using this caruntil they fix mine.
A: When'd you get in a wreck? How'd it happen?
B: It was on Monday. The other driver wasn't paying attention, ran a stop sign, and hit me.
A: No one got hurt, right?
B: No. We were both fine.
Dialogue 3°: “2 friends catch up”
Two friends from high school talk on the phone
Shelby: Hello? (answering the phone) Rachel: Hey, is this Shelby? Shelby: Yeah,who's this? Rachel: It's Rachel Smith. Shelby: Wow, I haven't heard from you in forever. How is everyone? Rachel: They're fine. The kids are in school now. Are you still with Jimmy? |
Shelby: Yep, we actually got married last year.
Rachel: That's great. Congratulations. Hey, I gotta go. I'll give you a call tonight so we can talk more.
Shelby: Alright. Talk to you later.
Dialogue4°: "Getting up early"
Brittany's car is getting repaired at the mechanic. So her friend, Sharon, is driving her to work and she doesn't like it.
Brittany: I really appreciate you getting up early to drive me to work. Sharon: It's ok. But you owe me one. Brittany: My car should be out of the shop soon. I'm still not sure what's wrong with it. Sharon: Hopefully it'll be easy to fix. What aminute... how are you getting back home? Brittany: Well.... Sharon: No. Take the bus. |
Brittany: There's no direct bus to get home.
Sharon: Then take a taxi.
Brittany: Come on. It's only for a few days.... Why are we stopping? Ouch!
Dialogue 5°: "That's a good deal."
A: So, I found a new apartment. B: I didn't know you were moving out. A: Yeah. My lease is up and I need acheaper place. B: How much is the new one? A:$400/month, all bills paid. Plus, it's a two bedroom. B: Whoa, that's a good deal. A: I know. It's a steal.. I'm moving in this Thursday. |
B: Is it furnished?
A: Yeah, but I still need a TV. I wanna get a free one. I already looked on Craig's List but didn't see anything.
B: I have an extra one you can use until you find a better one.
A:Really? Thanks. I appreciate it.
Dialogue 6°: "Just in case"
Two friends are sitting down. Ryan, Sheryl's boyfriend, is calling but Sheryl doesn't feel like talking to him. Caitlin is concerned.
(Phone rings) Sheryl: It's Ryan. Caitlin: You're not going to answer it? Sheryl: He probably wants to talk about our fight last night, but I don't want to. Caitlin: But you don't know that. Maybe there'san emergency and he needs your help. Sheryl: There's not much chance of that. |
Caitlin: Maybe you should answer, just in case.
Sheryl: I'm not answering the phone. Look, it went to voice-mail.
Caitlin: Aren't you going to check your messages?
Sheryl: Leave me alone!
Dialogue 7°: "Let me look it up."
(The phone rings)
A: Hello? B: Hey, why weren't you answering the phoneearlier? A: I accidentally left it at home. Sorry. B: It's ok. I just needed to ask you something. A: What?
B: I need the tracking # for the package we ordered. |
A: Ok, hold on. Let me look it up. Why do you need it?
B: I just realized that I need it in two days and want to make sure it'll arrive on time.
