A website is basically a set of web pages related to each other, which can contain information such as text, images, audio and other. A website is hosted on one server at least, and isaccessible via a network such as internet or a LAN through an URL. Some websites require a subscription to access all or some of their content.
A web page is a document written in plain text and HTML(Hyper Text Markup Language) instructions and is accessed and transported with HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) or optionally with HTTPS to provide privacy and security for the user. These pages canbe accessed from an URL that is the web address.
HTML is the predominant markup language for developing web pages that are used to describe and translate the structure and information in text, alsocan be used to supplement the text in the webpage with images or graphics.
HTML is an application derived from SGML (Standard Generalized Markup Language) metalanguage. SGML is used to specify therules for labeling of documents, without imposing any particular set of labels.
Other language used in web pages develop is XML (Extensible Markup Language) is a markup language that defines thespecific language grammar to structure large documents, but XML is not only used for web applications also is a potential standard for information exchange, for example can be used in databases and texteditors.
The most efficient navigation system of websites is based on text links, although is possible that are based on image maps or graphical buttons. If the site have a graphic navigation system isadvisable include descriptive ALT text captions for that the visitor that use text browsers or who browse with graphics turned off, can find their way around the site. Other good idea is include asite map to offers a good overview of the site and make easier the orientation for visitors.
