Stage Set for Showdown on Online Privacy

WASHINGTON After “do not call” lists became popular, more than 90 percent of people who signed up reported fewer annoying telemarketing calls. Now,privacy advocates are pushing for a similar “do not track” feature that would let Internet users tell Web sites to stop surreptitiously tracking their online habits and collecting clues about age,salary, health, location and leisure activities.
That proposal and other ideas to protect online privacy are setting up a confrontation among Internet companies, federal regulators, the Obamaadministration and Congress over how strict any new rules should be.
Officially, Commerce Department and trade commission officials say they see the two reports as complementary. The commission will most likelyaddress “privacy by design,” or how privacy features may be built into browsers or Web sites. It will also encourage greater transparency about when data is being collected and how it will be used,and the need for clearly worded privacy or user notices.
In my opinion could say that privacy online and in the social networks should be private and confidential , and we all need privacy . However inmany cases trace helps in capturing criminals.
In first place Security is important but I think so is privacy.
I desagree that rastren calls and everything you type online network , the privacy ofindividuals is essential.
