International factors that led the Mexican Independence

The Mexican Independence was caused by many factors. In one hand we have the internal factor that are among others the richness was baddistributed and the discontent of the creoles of having less power than the Peninsulares. In the other have the external causes that are probably the more significant as the Bourbonic reforms, theNapoleonic invasion in Spain and the French Revolution.

One of the external factors of the Mexican Independence was the Bourbon’s administrative and politic reforms that led the kings to increase theirrevenues (Skidmore, Thomas E., Smith & Peter H., 2005). Among other things the Bourbon reforms included the modification of the intendant system, the Free Trade and the majority of the positionsoccupied by the Peninsulares. The creoles were unhappy with the new reforms; they “found this policy insulting and began to argue that they had a closer identification with colonial concerns than thePeninsulares did”. (Kirkwood, 2000. P.68). This let to create a connection between New Spain and the creoles, in other words that let the nationalism rise, some examples of this are the writers JuanaInés de la Cruz and Carlos de Sigüenza y Góngora.

Other important factor was the Napoleonic invasion of Spain. That had many consequences in and out that country. In Spain the people showed they wereunhappy with the cession of the crown by the royal family, because as Gueniffey (2009) said in his publication the Spaniards taught that would be a treat between the kings and the people. But not alsoin Spain, in New Spain existed dissatisfaction too. That was the point that led the Mexican Independence start, because as we know the movement didn´t start looking for independence, but for the kingto Spain return to the throne and take out France of the Spaniard government. This thought changed as long as the movement was advancing and the people saw the opportunity of not depend of Spain....
