It depends on a number of factors:
* The age of students: Children need to be more overtly disciplined than adults. Generally, young teenagers are considered tobe the most difficult.
* The reasons for learning and the motivation of students: whether they are obliged to be in class or whether they are volunteers.
* The size of the class: Itis more difficult to keep an orderly atmosphere in a large class than a small one.
* The atmosphere and ethos of the institution: Some institutions are much stricter than others in theirattitude to student behavior.
* The respect the members of the class have for teachers in general and you in particular
How can we gain respect from our students?
* Be punctual* Be well prepared for the lesson
* Return homework promptly
* Do what you say you are going to do
* Treat students consistently and fairly
* Try not to have your personalfeelings about individual students influence the way you treat them as members of the group
* Don't ignore problems
* Never make threats you are not able to or prepared to carry out
*Never lose your temper
Other ideas on how to maintain discipline are:
* Put warnings when necessary: sometimes children need to be punished, and reflect on what they did. Thus, thenext class they could come prevented from committing the same offense in front of the class.
* The teacher should mark the roles in the classroom: If the teacher acts as a student, studentscould treat him as a friend they could answer in an aggressive way when they don’t agree with something.
* Having good relationships with student’s parents: In some many cases, theproblems which students have is because of their parents, so it's good to talk to them, and to give the child to containment in class pay attention and not disturb others peers or feels uncomfortable.
