Aprender los sustantivos en inglés es muy importante, porque su estructura se utiliza en todas las conversaciones diarias. La única solución es dominar la gramática y el vocabulario para poder hablar el idioma con fluidez. Pero primero debemos entender el papel que los sustantivos en inglés juegan en la lengua.
Los sustantivos se clasifican en dos grupos: el primeroson los nombres propios. Éstos designan a una determinada persona, animal o cosa (Juan, Sara, Pedro...). El segundo grupo son los nombres comunes, que se dividen a su vez en concretos y abstractos.
Los nombres abstractos designan grupos de personas, animales o cosas con características comunes (pez, persona, coche...). Los nombres abstractos designan conceptos fabricados por el hombres (belleza,juventud, bueno, malo...).
Por otra parte, estos nombres pueden ser contables o no contables. Una forma de reconocerlos es el hecho de que a los contables se les puede anteponer un numeral, sin que la frase pierda su sentido. Observa los siguientes ejemplos:

Note that in thethree first examples, just a –s is added to the verb. On the other hand, in the forth example, -es is added to the verb, and in the last example, the y in cry is replaced by iand then –es is added to form cries.
