Atom Bomb Project
American History – Regular and Honors

This activity focuses on the United States decision to use the atomic bomb to end WWII.

Follow the directions step by step. The finalproject will contain three sections to be turned in:
1. Map
2. Graphic organizer
3. Point of view paper
4. Bumper sticker

Each section will be graded based on following of the directions,grammar, historical accuracy, and overall effort. The Paper will receive three grades while the other three sections will receive one grade. All totals 25% of the quarter grade.

Activities:
Studentswill look for ideas to support their answer to the question: "Seventy years later, in retrospect, if you were President Truman (given what we know today) what decision would you make about the UnitedStates dropping the atomic bomb?"


Documentation: You must use at least 4 different sources and document these sources using the APA Style.
- Use the library and these websites forreference in APA Style:

3. www.citationmachine.net – Choose APA, then source type, etc…

- Document within your essay andcreate a reference page listing the sources used for all parts of the project (I will explain further).

Section 1: Map of Japan

- Plot a scaled map of Japan and the surrounding areas on8.5X11” graph paper.
- Locate and label Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Tokyo, the Midway Islands, and any other significant areas to WWII.
- The map must be in color and neat!

Section 2: Graphic organizer- Use a graphic organizer to record the pros AND cons of dropping
the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

- Gather information about the political, military, human
casualities, landdestruction, and emotional (personal point of view)
aspects in regards to the dropping of the atomic bomb.
