Suicide: Why’s becoming an Option for Teens
And How’s affecting Society

Abstract
This essay will help us understand the suicidal situation that are living many teens on all countries of the world. Many people think that is just dumb or tag them as “emo”. This is way I made a research, which included reading books of depression andpsychology for the teenager, searching sites of organizations that specialize on treating teenagers with suicidal problems, and how they treat them. My investigation includes one of the most interesting questions for me… Does culture matter on the way teenagers are thinking of giving up life? We thought USA was the only, or one of the only, countries where teenagers tend to kill themselves, but Ifound China is the country #1 with this problem. Teenager with suicidal mind, usually begin with depression and sadness, they don’t necessarily need to be “antisocial”, but they don’t tend to tell their problems. Suicide begins with self harming themselves.

41% ofpeople believe that self- harm is selfish. 55% of people believe that it is stupid. 43% of people know someone that has self- harmed. 1 in 10 people have harmed themselves by the age of 16. The World Health Organization (2011), has said that right now 121 million people worldwide suffer from depression. 2/3 of those suffering from depression never had treatment. Just keep the next thing in mind: TheNational Institute of Mental Health (2011) said that untreated depression is the number one cause of suicide, and suicide is the third leading cause of death among teenagers.
Right now, teenagers are the future not only of the country we are living in, but the future of the entire world, and maybe by now many people didn’t know how critical is becoming the case of suicidal teens, by it justkeeps growing. It seems that teenagers of this era may be sensible, or that teenagers also are becoming selfish. Why do I say selfish? Well, one of the leading causes to suicide in teens is because they have been bullied. Let’s start with this topic, I think by now, we know that Bully means, that kid we see on all of the high school American movies that tend to abuse and is mean with little kids thatdoesn’t even do nothing to him. Well this not just happen in movies, this happens every day in not just America, but in all countries. As teenagers are bullied, they begin to feel insecure of themselves; they start to think they actually are loser and don’t have any flaws. The site called “Suicide Prevention Life Line” (2010) said that during the 2007 – 2008 school year, 32 percent of thenation’s students ages 12-18 reported being bullied, and of these students
21% said that they were bullied once or twice a month, 10% reported being bullied once or twice a week, 7% indicated they were bullied daily and, nearly 9& reported being physically injured as a result of bullying. During that same school year, four percent of students’ ages 12-18 reported being cyber bullied. If thosestatistics are from 2007 and 2008, just imagine how those percents are growing. Now, those were kids that are bullied just because bully’s want to.
Let’s talk about people that are being judge. Gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgender, we tag them all. Most of these people want to kill themselves, because day by day are being judge by people; they call them “freaks” or just laugh at them because theydon’t share the same thoughts. To end this problem, there’s an organization call “It Get’s Better”, it helps people who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, etc. And it’s making a huge impact over the Internet, since many actors and singers are helping too.
Another leading cause to suicide is because teenagers just don’t feel good with how they are. Ladies tend to have Eating Disorders, and that ends...
