Respiratory System

Functions:
1-Breathing enables your respiratory system to take in oxygen and to eliminate carbon dioxide.
2-Every cell in your body needs oxygen for a series of chemical reactions called cellular respiration.
3-During cellular respiration, oxygen and sugarreact realizing energy a cell can use.
4-Your respiratory system removes carbon dioxide and wastes gases from your body, so than cells can use them.

Organs:
1-Cilia line the nose and most other airways in the respiratory system.
Wavelike motions of the cilia carry trapped particles away from your lungs.
Helps prevent harmful particles from getting very far into your respiratory system.2-The epiglottis is a flap of tissue at the lower end of the pharynx that keeps food and liquids from entering the rest of the respiratory system.
3-The pharynx is a tube-like passageway at the top of the throat that recibes air, food and liquids from the mouth or nose.
4-The larynx a triangle-shaped area called the voice box that air passes from the pharynx.
5-Thrachea is a tube that is heldopen by C-shaped rings of cartilage.
6-Lungs are the main organ of the respiratory system.
7-Bronchi, two narrowed tubes that lead into the lungs.
8-Alveoli microscopic sacs, or pouches, where gas exchange occurs.
9-Diaphragm contracts, relaxes and moves air in and out of the lungs.

Breathing and Air Pressure:
1-Air rushes into and out of the lungs to equalize the air pressure inside and outof the body.
2-During the inhalation, the diaphragm contracts and moves down, enlarging the space around the lungs.
3-During exhalation, the diaphragm relaxes and moves up, reducing the space around the lungs.

Respiratory Health:
1-Some respiratory illness makes breathing difficult and can even become life threatening.
2-The best way to maintain good respiratory health is to stop away fromirritants and air pollution.
Homeostasis:
The interaction between the muscular system and the respiratory system bring oxygen into your lungs and removes carbon dioxide, helping to maintain homeostasis.

Lesson review p.564:
1-The trachea branches into two narrowed airways called bronchi.
2-Capillares surround the alveoli were gas exchange occurs.
3-breathing is the movement of air intoand out of the lungs and respiration is the action of breathing.
4-The hair in the nose help because it blokes the dirt and dust from entering the nose.
5 1- Takes in oxygen and to eliminate carbon dioxide.
2- Your body gets oxygen from a series of chemical reactions called cellular respiration.
3- Oxygen and sugar react realizing energy a cell can use.
4- Remove carbon dioxide and wastesgases from your body, so than cells can use them.
6-A=circulatory
7-During gas exchange in the alveoli the poor-oxygen blood go to the right and the rich-oxygen blood go to the left.
8-
trachea | both | bronchi |
is always open | are tubes | is narrowed |
Is made out of cartilage | | lead into the lungs |

Voc. Words:

3-larynx-a triangle-chapped area called the voice box that air passes from the pharynx.
4-thrachea-is a tube that is held open by C-chapped rings of cartilage.

6-lungs-is the main organ of the respiratory system.7-alveoli-microscopic sac, or punches, where gas exchange occurs.
8-diaphragm-contracts, relaxes and moves air in and out of the lungs.

Circulatory System
Functions:
1-your circulatory system is important for transporting materials from one part of your body to another.
2-Blood carries food, water and oxygen and other material through your circulatory system to your body’s cells and tissues....
