I. Everything started as a little game. We hanged out for years before deciding to take the next step. We created our gang because we wanted to be respected by other gangs. We certainly gain respect but for a high cost. We gave up our style of life for drugs and sometimes murders. That is the gangster life.
II. When you are part of a gang you watch life from a differentperspective because there are drugs involved.
A. I first want to talk about drugs in gangs and present how they change the way of life of my homies and those who are members of other gangs.
B. My homies first started by drinking beer, then marijuana came. Then they took it to another level; they gave up their respect for nothing. They started to use methamphetamines, crack, and ice.C. They even started to commit robbery, kidnap people, extortion, attack houses, bars, banks and more. Just to get their hands on more drugs.
D. I have seen the lives of almost all the members of my gang get destroyed by drugs. They deal it and consume it; this change their minds and attitudes.
D1. According to USDOJ (United States Department of Justice), street gangs andprison gangs are the primary distributor of drugs on the streets of the U.S. They also produce and transport drugs within the country; this applies to Mexico as well.
D2. Gangs primarily transport and distribute powdered cocaine, crack, cocaine, heroin, marijuana, methamphetamines and more.
D3. According to Steve Segura, on an initial investment of $2500 worth of cocaine and usingtwo readily available household chemicals, $10,000 worth of crack can be produced… The $10,000 worth of crack becomes $40,000 by the end of the day.
E. That is more money than what my father gains in a whole year; however, it is not gained with honor.
F. Once my homies were into drugs there is nothing that can take them away from drugs since there is lots of money that areeasily earned. One clear example is my friend and homie Pansho who was a natural high but when he was under the influences of drugs, he was another person. One time he went crazy and killed a guy. He is in prison with a sentence of 35 years.
III. Now let me tell you about deaths by gangs.
A. According to the National Institute of Justice, most of the deaths by gangs are gun-related.B. In 1976, the percentage of homicides was about 70% but by 1993 it reached to 97%. In 2004 it fell to 94%.
C. Other deaths are caused by fights between gangs.
C1. Last year in Mexicali, my gang was at a concert where our juniors were and the veterans got in a fight and the other gang saw one of our juniors and one of its members stab a 12 year old kid in the stomach, myhomies wanted to take him to the hospital, but the security guards did not let them. The kid bled to death in the concert ground.
C2. Also, last year one friend named Cesar, and let me repeat a friend, of our gang got murdered by members of other gang. They killed him because they had seen him with members of my gang in parties. They got him in the street while he was peeing. One guy stoodbehind him and stabbed him in the heart. Even though he was not part of our gang, we still got hurt by his death because he was a good friend of us. My gang and his family probably took revenge on the guy who killed him because Cesar’s brother is an federal agent in Mexicali and as we know they can do whatever they want to people they arrest.
C3.As seen in Ney York Times, another case isthe one about a 14 year old kid who got killed in 2004. The article says that the kid begged on his knees for his life before being killed. Investigators say that he was an innocent victim since he was not part of any gang. They shot him while he was riding his bike. As he fell to the ground the two men got out of the car and unloaded their weapons into his face and torso. He was struck 19 times....
