Chapter 1:Everything About Patrick Demarchelier

Patrick Demarchelier is aFrench-born fashion photographer. Born in 1943, he spent his childhood in Le Havre. When Demarchelier was 17, he got his first Eastman Kodak camera, and then he learned how to develop film, retouch negatives and began shooting friends and weddings. In 1975, he left Paris for New York City. During working as a Free lance Photographer and learning and working with photographers such as HenriCartier-Bresson, Terry King, and Jacques Guilbert, he drew the attention of Elle, Marie Claire and 20 Ans Magazine. Now he is still living in US. He and his team have a studio located in Manhattan. About His Customer Base Demarchelier’s customer base includes almost every major fashion magazine all over the world, and also many international luxury fashion brands. In the magazine area, he has shot the coversfor American, British and Paris Vogue, and also Rolling Stone, Glamour, Life, Newsweek, Elle and Mademoiselle. He spent 15 years at Vogue before signing an exclusive contract with Harper’s Bazaar and Hearst Publications in 1992 that resulted in a 12-year collaboration, I and during this period Demarchelier’s work rapidly became recognized by key players in the fashion industry. In 2004, heembarked upon a new exclusive relationship with Condé Nast publications (Glamour, Mademoiselle, Vogue etc) where he continues to grace hundreds of covers with his photographs. In term of the extravagant advertising campaign, his customers includes many high-profile fashion and beauty brands, such as Farrah Fawcett shampoo in 1978, the Brooke Shields doll in 1982, Lauren by Ralph Lauren, Louis Vuitton,Chanel, Armani, Versace, Calvin Klein, Banana Republic, Lancôme, Valentino, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Donna Karan, Christian Dior, L’Oreal, Estée Lauder Elizabeth Arden, Revlon, Gianfranco Ferré, and so on. He remains one of the most prolific image makers in the business. His influence in fashion world is powerful. He is referenced in the film The Devil Wears Prada, whenthe "dragon lady" Miranda Priestly, asks Andy, on her very first day on the job, "Did Demarchelier confirm?", leaving her utterly confused. About His Best Known & One of His Success Factors: He is most known for being Princess Diana's favourite photographer from 1989 until her tragic death, and is also the first non-Briton to become an official photographer for the Royal Family. Relaxed and laughingbut with that core sadness still apparent, Diana’s manufactured coyness, which had become her default position in front of the camera, was at last undone. The photographs were described as "iconoclastic". "Diana didn't pose like a model, and I had to work at getting her to relax. But I knew what I wanted because I had seen paparazzi pictures of her laughing, and that was when she was at herprettiest."
