Phonetics
There areonly 26 basic letters in our English alphabet, but there are over forty basic sounds (or 'phonemes'). E.g. it uses the same letter or letters for different sounds, as in the many ways in which theough combination can be pronounced; and it gives the same sound aIl sorts of different speIlings - the same vowel // appears in sit, women, village, busy and enough, for example.
2.-On page1, Crystal describes some differences in pronunciation between dialects in Britain (a Cockney and a Welshman). Do differences of this type occur in Mexico? Give two examples from your ownexperience.
The name word XOCHITL. In oaxaca the people say SOCHIL And the word CHAMACO. In Oaxaca the people say shamaco.
