Los prefijos / los sufijos

A. los prefijos

1. des= no

desaparecer, desagradable, desafortunado

2. in, im = no
im- is usedwith the inicial consonant p: imposible, improbable

incómodo, insuficiente, increíble

3. en- in: em-is used before certain consonants: in

envolver, encantar, encarcelar ,embrujar

B. los sufijos

1. ísimo-a-os-as =very, very
If the adjective ends in a vowel, drop the vowel before the –ísimo.
If it ends in a consonant, just add –ísimo.

rojo =rojísimo
fácil = facilísimo

2. ito, ico, illo: small, pequeño
Before adding –ito or –ico or –illo used with o,a,e, drop the final
vowel. –cito for other vowel.

casa =casita Ana = Anita
papel = papelito plato = platillo







3. oso,a,os,as: full of, lleno de
Again, if the Word ende in a vowel, drop the vowel befote addingthe
suffix. If it ends in a consonant, just add the suffix.

orgullo = orgulloso
fama = famoso
disgusto = disgustoso

4. ón/ona= big, grande
Drop the vowel if there isone.

Guitarra = guitarrona hombre = hombrón
Mujer = mujerona silla = sillón

5. mente: ly ending for forming an adverb
If the adjective ends in aconsonant, add –mente.

fácil + mente= fácilmente
útil + mente = útilmente

6. If the adjective ende in –o, change the o to a and add mente.

completo + mente = completamenteinmediato + mente = inmediatamente

azo: a hit with; golpe con
manotazo = golpe con la mano
codazo = golpe con el codo (elbow)
balazo = golpe con una bala (bullet)7. ero, era: These suffixes form the doers of the action which a noun
or verb suggest. They also serve as containers/receptacles.
