What a thesis is
The word “thesis” comes from the Greek θέσις = position According with The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Current English
• thesis/"Ti:sIs/ n 1 a proposition to be maintained or proved. 2 a dissertation esp. by a candidate for a degree. [Middle English via Late Latin from Greek = putting,placing, a proposition, etc.]
A thesis is:
• An intellectual proposition • A document that presents the author’s research and findings and is submitted in support of candidature for a degree ( Master or Doctorate) or professional qualification
