The following biography is about a famous female artist. Read it once, and then scan the textagain to identify the main events in Frida’s life.

Frida: Mexico’s Passion

One of the world’s greatest female painters was born to an upper-class Mexican family. Frida Kahlo, the daughter of aGerman Jew and a part-Indian, part-Spanish mother, became famous for her intensely personal, often painful self-portraits.

Frida was born on July 6, 1907. Early on, she proved to be a flamboyantcharacter. Conscious of her effect on others, Frida enjoyed dressing outrageously: she would wear men’s suits or colourful peasant dresses and put flower in her hair.

In high school, Frida met thegreat Mexican painter Diego Rivera when he was commissioned to paint a mural for her school. Frida had a schoolgirl crush ant the older painter and she told her school friend that she would haveRivera’s child one day.

When Frida was eighteen, an accident occurred that dramatically altered her life. A streetcar hit the bus she was riding in. The bus shattered to pieces and a handrail went throughFrida’s body. She eventually regained her ability to walk, but the accident meant that she had serious health problems for the rest of her life. She was often in pain and had to be hospitalized for...
