Redhat ASR3 installed from AIX NIM master February 2004

regatta06.dfw.ibm.com, in the Power4 partition regatta006. It was installed from the nim server. Note I said installed FROM, notinstalled BY, the NIM server.

1) I copied all of RHAS3 CD1, and the RPMS from CD2 and 3 into an nfs exported directory on the nimserver (/export/rhas3).

2) on nim server, put a couple entries into/etc/bootptab for the RHAS3 netboot.img file, like so:

3) on nim server, added a line to /etc/tftpaccess.ctl (can you guess which one?)

allow:/tftpboot
allow:/export/rhas3/images

4) jiggled tftpd, inetd
stopsrc -s tftpd
startsrc -a -n -s tftpd
refresh -s inetd

5) network boot theclient, like we always do, SMS, remote ipl setup, 100 full, client ip, server ip, router ip, subnet mask, ping test, then multiboot, set ethernet as first boot device, exit SMS, away we go!

6) sortof expected a 0> to enter my kickstart file, and nfs server, but this particular boot image took me right into a prompted anaconda install (not such a bad idea, actually). Need to figure this outthough, in order to get my %post commands into an install.

7) answered a lot of questions, and then it installed a default of 500 or so packages. Initially I didn't have all RPMS in the exportdirectory, and anaconda stopped for me to fix that, and gave me a "retry" button to continue. OK, pretty good. By contrast, NIM enforces the contents of an lppsource before it can be defined and used forclient install. Just different.

8) reboot after install, hey this thing doesn't set the bootlist to disk after the install completes, the client went immediately to network boot again (first...
