This book is about a kid, Jesse Oliver Aarons, Jr. the only boy between 4 girls, 2 older, Brenda and Ellie, and 2 younger, May Belle and Joyce Ann, he likes sports drawing and wondering about thingsthat do not exist. The Aarons live in Virginia with their both parents but their father works in Washington so most of the time there`s only their mom, they live in a farm and Jesse as the only man inthe house he has to do many tasks as milk the cow for example, Jesse is on fifth grade and he is trying to prepare to become into the fastest kid in fifth grade he wakes up early to go running, hedoesn´t care to run on his bare feet, after running he have to milk Miss Bessie, and return inside the house to have breakfast, his older sisters especially Brenda is always bothering an fighting withJesse and this time is because he smells bad, he is sweating an he is not wearing a shirt. Then there is May Belle who is his little sister, he get along with her better than with Brenda or Ellie, thyhave a neighbor house, the Perkin's house that is not occupied but one day there is a lot of movement in the Perkin's house there were people moving in, the Burkes, Bill and Judy they are a marriageof writers, they have a daughter, Leslie Burke, a strange girl that is weird from head to toes, she has very cut hair, her clothes are different than the other girl's clothes, at first Jesse thoughtshe was a boy, she is really smart, she has likes that are not common in that age kids. In the school there is Miss Edmunds the music teacher who is gorgeous and Jesse is in loved with her and she likesthe artistic side of him, she likes to see his drawings, other character from the school is Janice Avery an older student, she always bother younger students she is mean an she has personal problemsso she behaves that way, another character that I think is important is the little puppy that Jesse gives to Leslie the puppy name is Prince terrier (P. T.).
