Resource: Over 30 workers trapped after Chilean copper mine collapse.
On August 5, 2010 a copper mine collapsed and trapped 33miners on a mine of copper named San Jose this mine was located 45km north of a Chilean city named Copiapo and 800km of Santiago the capital of Chile, this mine was property of a mining company namedSan Esteban the victims were trapped 700 meters underground after a internal collapse inside the mine happened at 14:00 pm local time in Chile, but only on the night of the accident the gravity of thistragedy was given.
At first the information that was given was that 25 persons were trapped but the figure raised to 33 and there were no possibilities to know the conditions of the victims. Theminister of the mining industry Laurence Golborne cancelled his visit to Ecuador on august 6, 2010 and comes back to Chile to head the labors of the rescue of the 33 miners that were trapped. Thefamilies of the victims were informed by phone calls and other families were informed by the Chilean news the action that I think they had to take is to verify with all the families that were on the scene ofthe accident to make sure all 33 families were present that way I’ll be easier to for them to keep updating the families of the victims about any news that were given by the rescue teams that wereinvolved.
On August 6 rescue teams enter the mine by a ventilation chimney but at the next day they can’t access due to security issues and that the duct that had access to the shelter that the victimswere in was blocked, on that same day the President of Chile cancelled his visit to Colombia and on august 7 comes back to Chile to be with the families of the miners that were camping alreadyoutside of the San Jose mine.
