Same Sex Marriage Should Be Legal
Homosexuality has always existed, within ancient Egypt, even Greece and other great
civilizations (“Homosexuality” 4). However, it wasn´t until now that it started playing an
important role in the society(Wijngaards 13). At this point in the history, homosexual couples are
finally fighting for their rights, to end discrimination, andhaving the same rights that
heterosexual couples have (Johnson 6). The main reasons people discriminate against this kind of
marriages are based on what science, Christianity and politics say. All of these state same
sex marriage is incorrect. Even though these three are the main enemies for same sex marriage,
if we analyze them one by one, we can find that none of them actually provehomosexuality is
incorrect, and therefore that same sex marriage should not be accepted.
Science usually would define homosexuality as an unworthy condition of life, or
psychologically caused, but there is biological evidence that supports it is genetically caused, not
psychologically. Michael Bailey, a professor from the North Western University, has realized
different studies, focusinghis research on twins (Bailey 1). One of his studies is based on Jared
and Adam. These kids are fraternal twins and were five years old when the study was made.
Their rooms and attitudes were completely different: while Jared was playing with rockets
and airplane toys, Adam was proud of his room with his white horses, his nail paint with stars
and diamonds and all his stuffed unicorns.Adam´s and Jared´s mom stated that she had seen
these “differences” in her sons since they were eighteen months old (Schorn 9). Another case is

with Greg and Steve Loss. “As identical twins they had the same upbringing, the same DNA,
and yeah, Greg is gay and Steve is straight” Lesley Stahl stated. This study suggests
homosexuality can be caused by hormones (Stahl 10). These and other studiescan prove
homosexuality is caused by hormones or genes, and is not physiological or environmentally
cause. If homosexuality is something that can´t be avoided, then, it must not be discriminated in
such a form that they are not allowed to marry.
The church (talking about Christianity) is the largest enemy of same sex marriage.
The church marks homosexuality as a sin and incorrect.However, doesn´t the church also say
God gave humanity free will? God gave humanity free will to choose our own decisions (“Free
Will” 3). Free will is expressed in Deuteronomy 30:19_ “This day I call heaven as witnesses a
gainst you that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Now choose life, so
that both you and your descendants may live” (“Reina Valera Bible” 8). God gaveus the privilege to
choose what path to follow, what type of life to have. God gave this privilege knowing the
consequences could be bad or good (“Free Will” 2). If God gave that privilege, knowing the
consequences, why should society or the church deny homosexual couples the right to marry?
Politics is an area of society that really influences the way people think. Regrettably, we
cansay homosexuality is not well seen in politics; therefore, people have discriminated these
types of couples, forming another type of minority (Messerly 7). In most of the world, led by
the thinking homosexuality is wrong, same sex marriage is illegal (“Tracking
Same-Sex Marriage” 12). This is discriminating homosexual people, and taking away the rights
they deserve as human beings.However, not all the politicians have the same ideas: if we talk
about the USA, 18% of the country has now legalized same sex marriage (Stritof 11). If nine of
the fifty states of the world's most powerful country already did it and none of them has exploded
into a thousand pieces, then what is stopping the rest of the country and the world from
legalizing same sex marriage and giving these...
